Don’t forget namecheap.com! NameCheap is the only registrar I buy from simply because they don’t steal domains from people.
I’ve heard stories about GoDaddy.

Been doing business with GoDaddy for three years now, haven’t had even the slightest problem with them so far. Given that they handle so many registrations, they’re liable to mess up every now and then (statistically, it’s expected). But I’ve been lucky and hope it stays that way. :)

When I wanted to register my domain, I went online to hunt for a bargain. I checked GoDaddy, Register, and many other sites. But I found a bargain at Mad Dog Domains. I registered a dot com there for 7.15$, no hassles. Domain control panel is good, no problems whatsoever.
But recently, I discovered another site, which gave a better deal. It was Netfirms dot com, where a domain registration is the cheapest you can find anywhere. Only 5.95$ a year. Their control panel is good, and they offer a complementary hosting of 25MB with domain registration…
A good deal I would say…
If you find a registrar cheaper than Netfirms, then please let me know.

I use GoDaddy for my domain name needs. But thanks just the same to Gauhar for suggesting Mad Dog Domains and Netfirms. It’s good to have many options for domain name registration.

I actually prefer buying domain names on NameCheap because their cp is easier to use. GoDaddy is also good though.

Note that netfirms offer is for the first year only. I’d like a site that reviews and compares each registrar’s features, i.e., netfirms offers 25MB of hosting, etc.

I inherited a domain name that was bought from mad dog domains. I initiated a domain transfer to my web host, and I thought it had been transferred. When the expiration date came, mad dog domains turned off my site. I called them on the phone at 1:30 AM and “Luis” told me that it was impossible to pay by paypal, so I had to drive one hour to the office to get a credit card number to pay. He said it was impossible to transfer the domain name without paying mad dog first. I drove to the office, called mad dog (“Don”) who did not know answers to basic questions about my domain like why I could go to my site and interact with it from the office but from home i would see the “parked domains” page, before i resolved the payment issue. He also tried to get me to log in to a separate domain host (domainsbyproxy.com). That didn’t work, so i had to use my maddog login and i had to pay the full price including things i didn’t want (privacy). I was then able to pay with paypal. Isn’t that nice. I could have done that without spending $15 on gas at 1:30 in the morning. Then Don refused to give me an authorization code to transfer the site, he said i would have to first contact my new domain host to do that. He insisted after i asked several times. So I called ixwebhosting, and asked them to initiate the transfer. They said it was impossible til I got the authorization code. I insisted there had to be a way to start it without that. They said no. That took about 30 minutes. Then I called mad dog again, talked to Don, and said, “I need an authorization code to transfer my domain,” and he immediately agreed to send it to me. Isn’t that also nice. Mad Dog Domains sucks.

Does Godaddy charge you every month? I’d like a one-time investment. Any help with that?
Thanks. :)

Godaddy does not charge you every month unless you’re getting hosting from them, too. I use them for all my domain and use coupons to save money.
RRTV1 – 10% off anything (this is great for hosting packages)
RRTV2 – $5 off orders of $30 or more
RRTV3 – .COM’s for $7.49 BEST deal!
Hope that helps someone else save money, too. I find their phone help to be very good and I’ve called them at 3 in the morning to assist me with registrations. Nice.

hEY gUYS!
As most of you have already stated, GoDaddy.com is the best option to chose when purchasing a url. For 2009, they have great new deals going on that work great.
I came across this one:
30% .coms and renewals: Slam3
It works great and I suggest using it. I hope that helps. Leave a follow up comment for any questions. Thanks!
